When did you first become interested in working in finance?
My Gmail records tell me it was in 2005, which sounds about right! I had my first real job and was making actual money. So, making that money work for me sounded like a wise thing to do. I started learning a lot aboutinvesting, and many technology centered trading firms were recruiting. What better than to merge my main interests at the time: engineering and trading.
In 3 sentences, tell me about your role at the firm.
As Director of Product Management, my job is to oversee product and project management across the organization. My goals are to facilitate the prioritization of product initiatives, define features and products, streamline business and engineering processes to maximize execution, and collaborate in business development initiatives. I also make sure people hit the gym at lunch time (but strictly speaking, that’s not part of my job description).
What do you like to do in your spare time?
This is a great question! Too many things! Here is a sampling: spend time with my fiancé, train in and teach American Jiu Jitsu, learn how to make new cocktails, cook, dance salsa and hip hop, throw gatherings of many types, invest quality time in the lives of people in and outside of my church, watch movies, cook, learn languages, and listen to music. You’ll notice sleep didn’t make that list… I should reconsider.
What is one thing that most people would be surprised to learn about you?
That I’m actually an introvert. No one believes me when I say so. They think I’m trying to pull a fast one. Alas!
If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?
So I guess I can’t say space...hmm…right now, I would say Egypt. I’ve yet to see any of the wonders of the world. Catching a glimpse of the pyramids would be pretty awesome – not to mention a nice kick-off to a worldwide trek to visit all the ancient wonders (Mayan ruins, I’ve got my eyes on you).
What famous person would you like to meet and why?
Jesus Christ. He changed the world, and he did so with nothing but the clothes on his back.
